Touraine, land of vineyards...
The Loire valley enjoy a fair weather all year long which benefits the grapes and allow the region to produce some excellent wines. If you want to learn more about them have a look at Vins de Loire and Coeur de France. As usual we have our favorite list, but unfortunately a few of them have a web site. Still you will find some below and you will have to ask for the others !
|Domaine de la Chevalerie||We discovered « Le Domaine de la Chevalerie » mid 90’s during a family reunion where the guys went for wine hunting in the morning. We met Pierre the father who apparently snatched us before his father could get to us… Their wine cellar is absolutely gorgeous but more importantly their wines are just a pure moment of absolute pleasure! We spent hours listening Pierre telling us how he would match this wine with this dish, by the end we could even hear the sizzling of the meat on a BBQ… We returned home way late for lunch and I can still remember that not everybody was as happy as we were… In a nut shell if there is only one vineyard you should visit during your stay this is THE ONE! Nowadays, Stephanie, the daughter has taken over after completing her college in the US so communicating should not even be a problem.|
|Rousseau Frères||Once upon a time the Noble Joué was the main wine in Touraine. From the kings table in the 15th century it went almost extinct at the end of the 19th century because of the great vine plague. It is only in 1975 that a handful of wine makers decided to revive it for our greatest pleasure. A small production not to be missed…|
|Domaine Dozon||We've been drinking their wines for years but never visited them: It is now a done thing! First we enjoyed the country road snaking through vineyards and typical stone houses to the Domaine, then Laure the fifth generation in the Dozon family took us for a journey in her wine collection. Everything we tasted was somptuous... Combine it with a visit of medieval Chinon and you have a perfect day!|
|Château Gaudrelle||This time we are taking to the East of the city in the Vouvray area most specialized in White wines|
